Nurgle Blight Drone
I have finished my Nurgle Blight Drone to show to Ramon at Tunbridge Wells Games Workshop. He has been giving me a painting masterclass.
This is my first attempt at using paint layering instead of the good 'ole wargamers standbye of drybrushing and washing (don't mention the Huron disaster).
I added rust from MIG powders using thinner to stick it on.
I decided to keep the base bland with respect to colour to focus the eye on the model but neverthess convey an image of a battle-churned wasteland.
What do you think?
Very nice! love it!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like rusty iron to me which falls into Nurgles realm quite nicely.
ReplyDeleteNice model John you have done it justice
I think it looks great. Everytime I see one of the Drones I want to immediately order a half dozen. I would them have to answer to She who is not mentioned. I have been contemplating scratchbuilding several to go with my Plaguetowers.
ReplyDeleteThanks Fox

Dear Cyborg
ReplyDeleteI thought nurgle machine equals rust and corrosion. I have got a bit bored with green nurgles.
John
dear Will
ReplyDeleteThanks. I put some effort into this.
John
Dear Col
ReplyDeleteFrom a gaming point of view, fielding one is like fielding a single Sentinel but at £40 a model the civilian authorities (aka she who must be obeyed) are likely to cut up rough about the military budget.
John
Any tips on that style I'd like to try it. I've read a lot about it and I can see that the results are well worth it. Nicely done John.
ReplyDeleteHow many do you need for a standard unit. Yes the bean counters can really put a kink in the hobby budget. Worried about such mundane things like food and the utility bills.
Tom
That looks really good. It stands out from other Blight Drones as it is red instead of green. It is a really Nurgley red thought - it just looks pitted and rusty. Great work on this model.
ReplyDeleteDear Tom
ReplyDeleteWill contact you via e-mail about layering.
Thanks for the compliment.
You really need a blight (squadron) of three blight drones in the game as one will get shot to hell if it does anything adventurous. The rules do allow you to field an infestation (company) of nine to fifteen.
I doubt if I will buy another.
Wives are so unromantic in my experience. They want to spend valuable money on clothing, housing, feeding and educating the kids when there are shiny new toys to be bought. It's a puzzle.
John
Dear D
ReplyDeleteThanks. I must admit that I am rather pleased how it turned out.
John
Hi John
ReplyDeleteHave you put another layer of red on it since I saw it?, just that it seems much brighter or is that just the colour balance thingy on your camera again like the purple blast scape that was actually brown?
Dear Shaun
ReplyDeleteNo, the model is as you saw it but we were in dim light. I think it is to do with light levels. I photographed it in bright, direct sunlight. The light was coming in at about a 40 degree up from the horizon angle. Up here in southern England the sun is rarely overhead and the sunlight is often red- tinged. The light plows through a lot of air before it reaches the ground and Shaun and I live in the London Basin which has high levels of air pollution. Both factors 'warm' colour tones.
John
Damn blogger has gotten too fancy with the logins. None of them seem to work. I like your model and may add three to my Nurgle forces someday, but money is tight even for us wifeless fellows.
ReplyDeleteDear muskie
ReplyDeleteSo Shaun tells me but I have been in his flat!
It is a great kit and worth £40 but a squadron is a lot little golden coins with Her Majesty's head on.
John
Oh, dears. Tom is getting into WH. That means the next time I see Margaret, she is going to kiiiiillll me. Well, John, Tom, it was nice knowing you...
ReplyDeleteHi John
ReplyDeleteWell that clears that up. I know I must buy brighter bulbs. I do worried that its not all that lead I keep in that confined space starting to have a relatavistic effect, but the rest of my flat ( or the accretion disc as I like to call it) should be ok shouldn't it?
Dear Fred
ReplyDeleteOh dear, 40K. I guess Margaret is the Head of the Civilian Authority round at Tom's place. Oh dear, oh dear. Wait until she sees the military budget for a 40K army. I will write a nice benediction for you.
John
Dear Shaun
ReplyDeleteI guess all the lead in your flat must be reaching criticalo mass, in which case your flat will implode into a neutron star. That might affect its resale value a tad.
John
Hi John
ReplyDeleteJust to say to all of your blog followers the Blight drone is as good (or as bad)as it looks
It was definately beast of the match last night
( it took out about a half of the infantry I had on the field ) Still it was a close one
see you next wednesday for the return match
