Beautiful Great Britain
Arctic air is flowing over Southern England bringing frost and even a light dusting of snow.
This picture was taken by Anthony Spencer (note it is copyright), one of the finest landscape photographers in the world. It is of Corfe Castle in the Westcountry, the rural part of S. England. I used to take my girlfriend there when I was working in Bournemouth. She was a student at London University and used to visit me for the weekend. The pictgure has won the landscape photo of the year award.

It's a great place to reflect on history and human nature. The whole area is beautiful. Thanks for the pic.
ReplyDeleteDear Porky
ReplyDeleteYes, all things must pass. Sic Transit Gloria Mundi.
J.
Awesome picture -- makes me miss the UK.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder it won the award....beautifull.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Paul
Definitely a lovely spot (although I would say that as an ex-Dorset boy!) and a deserved win. As a youngster I have fond memories of walking along the nearby Nine-Barrow Down, still one of my favourite place names!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fantastic - brilliant post...
ReplyDeleteAnother reason to visit the U.K.again. The first (and last) time I had the pleasure to be there was in 1988.
ReplyDeleteWhy go to the West Country when you can go to Shropshire (my home) or Wales (my other home). We are blessed in the UK with beautiful countryside.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see what you guys get in America, I've not had the pleasure yet.
Dear Jabber
ReplyDeleteWhere are you now?
J
Dear Paul
ReplyDeleteThe Dorset coast is one of my favourite places.

Dear Ethics
ReplyDeleteMy family are from Dartmoor but I was born and brought up in Newquay. We used to holiday in Weymouth.
J
Dear Steve,
ReplyDeleteThanks

Dear Cyborg
ReplyDeleteThe terrain of the Shire and surrounds is Southern England. Your Security gropers are making headlines here. One comedian said that America is the only country that they shout at you when you arrive but feel you up when you leave :)
J
Dear Smurf
ReplyDeleteShropshire Is in the Westcountry - have you heard the accents?
My father was transferred from the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry to the Shropshires just in time for Anzio.

Dear Mork
ReplyDeleteThe UK has changed a lot since the eighties. Our ecomomy boomed and we all got materially richer - but no happier. West London is apparently the richest region in the world. Also we have had massive immigration into Southern England from other parts of the British Isles, Eastern Europe and further afield. London is still a vast, dirty, busy city - New York's twin sister.

Cyborg Trucker: At least you are not being robbed by your own government. :S Hungary sucks right now...
ReplyDeleteJohn: When I see the city name Dartmoor, I always visualize castles and knights...
John -- Down Under
ReplyDeleteDear Igi
ReplyDeleteNo castles or knights on Dartmoor. It's a national park dominated by grazing and bogs.
J
Dear Jabber
ReplyDeleteI bet it's warmer there than here right now.
J
Dear John!
ReplyDeleteIn my mind there are! :) Until i can visit there.
