Leeds Castle
On the occasion of Mrs JTS's birthday, we took tea at the old royal Leeds Castle, which is a few miles inland from where I live on the North Downs (the North Downs are hills, south of London).
This is the view from the tea room. The castle is privately owned and is a conference centre. It is very popular with groups like OPEC as security is good - walls, moat, portcullis etc.
Remains of the medieval guard house.
The trees are in blossom in southern England.
The South Terrace.
I've often wondered why it was named Leeds Castle, considering it is nowehere near Leeds.....
ReplyDeleteWe are very fortunate in the UK though to have all these wonderful historic monuments
Leeds is beautiful but Bodiam has always been my favourite. It's just so much of what I imagine a castle to be...
ReplyDeleteI feel the need for a visit to Leeds castle, I was last there around 20 years ago, when I did a little building and resteration work. Maybe a trip with the Mrs and kids in the Easter half term. Great post!!
ReplyDeleteRay
I recall visiting 10 yrs or so ago when I lived briefly in Portsmouth - nice spot.
ReplyDeleteDear KP
ReplyDeleteI seem to remember reading that it is a celtic man's name - as in Led's place.
