Pulp Death Ray
The Science Fiction Death Ray, as in The war of the Worlds, has a long and ignoble history in pulp fiction and an even more ignoble history in the real world. In the interway years, a variety of dodgy inventors in various countries sought to sell death rays, indeed the concept was reserected during Reagan's Staw Wars period, with the usual result - they don't freaking work!
The idea wasn't utterly useless as it pushed real research into such useful technologies as radar and lasers, but neither could be considered a death ray.
However no pulp game player should be without a mad inventor's death ray, so this is mine, kitbashed from two manufacturers.
Any idea, anyone?
Cool painting John.
ReplyDelete...and very impressive it is too, John! I find myself increasingly drawn to all things pulp...I feel (yet another) tangent coming on... :D
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Monty
Lovely work on that little fellow!
ReplyDeleteEgads! Another fiendish fabrication by those villainous Boche!
ReplyDeleteHi John,
ReplyDeleteIf were playing spot the kit I vote for Airfix robogear legs and Games Workshop Ork Zapp gun off the Battle wagon kit (Anorak for Mr Murphy....)
I vaguely recognise the gun from that Raptor I cut about last summer....I...I mean Waltii Industries fashioned out on the very edge of the Galactic rim!
ReplyDeleteYou heading reminds me of the old Giles vehicle; At Christmas he would have Granny haranguing some poor shop assistant in a department store toy section (while stuffing her pockets!) and in the background among all the other little in-jokes and Giles staples would be three large point of sale boxes (now 'bins') one marked 'Merry Festive Death-rays' the other marked 'Merry Festive Cuddly Bears' and the third marked 'Merry Festive Cuddly Bears with Death-rays'!
Dear Ray
ReplyDeleteThanks I used MIG dark vehicle wash.
J
Dear Monty
ReplyDeleteYah, it sucks you in. Pulp is just so cool.
J
Thanks, Pete.
ReplyDeleteDear Paul
ReplyDeleteMore alien technology from the Antarctic base in New Swabia.
J
Dear Shaun,
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely right.
J
Dear Maverick
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, my parents used to buy me the Giles cartoon book every Xmas. Brilliant.
J
More good pulp stuff with double duty possibilities. I can see it defending the villian's volcano base from the good guys or looming over the shoulder of one of your techpriests in the event those duplicitous xenos try a double cross when delivering that STC fragment.
ReplyDeleteDear Pagumb
ReplyDeleteYes I saw it reverting to Zap Gun in my Ork Army when not being used by Blofeld,
J
Love the Death Ray! As always you have great stuff and the speed at which you can get it done.
ReplyDeleteWow! Amazing design! Keep the great work up. Educational Toys
