Welcome to my strange alternative world of wargaming with toy soldiers: a game for boys from twelve years of age to one hundred and fifty and for that more intelligent sort of girl who likes boys' games and books (HG Wells, Little wars)

Hitler Reviews Age of Sigmar
Der Fuhrer is not entirely happy about AoS replacing Warhammer. See his review streamed straight from his gaming bunker here.
GW is going down in flames.....sad they tossed a good game out. I always said they should go Skirmish but they should have revived Mordheim and Necromunda.
Hi John That video is certainly doing the rounds (some kids used it to rail against last years A level chemistry paper) I had a look at the GW web site after getting Hitler's take on it. He's not wrong they really are very 40k in fact stick in a few plasma pistols and play spot the difference so cheap source of new Chaos types and Imperial space marines, what do we think late Horus heresy next year instead of 40K? Meanwhile I'll be brushing up on my Kings of War rules.
Love the video John, hadn't seen before, what a rant! GW will be fine, 40K and 30K have been keeping it buoyant whilst they waste money supporting LOTR and Hobbit and as many lament WHFB, it just wasn't making money anymore I guess, their ageing player base and veterans who have armies meant they needed to get a game which attracts new blood, I guess AoS is this stepping stone? WHFB 8th can still be played, and KOW seems to be the way to carry on playing a supported game system with all those lovingly painted minis. You never know, they might sort out the hastily put out simple rules for AoS into some thing that resembles WHFB in the future once they've hooked a young player base?
40K and Black Library has been keeping GW afloat for a while, although the hull is leaking. I am told half their model sales are space marines alone: presumably this explains the Sigmarines.
I was just gobsmacked when I read the AoS rules. They were a real slap in the face. A sort of 'we don't give a shit so any old crap will keep the customers happy'.
But, as you say. They may come back. The ship ain't sunk yet.
No, not happy at all
ReplyDeleteIt would appear that the 'Greatest Living Military Commander' has certain reservations about the system.
DeleteThis is probably what happens when you put "Bean Counters" in charge of a hobby!
ReplyDeleteIt is stunning how far they've fallen.

ReplyDeleteMordheim would have made a great starting point.
DeleteThere are so many great specialist GW games out there just begging for attention and support extending past a 'special release'.
ReplyDeleteYes, but they didn't have high enough profit margins.

Fancy a game of KoW, Shaun?

Thank you. :)
