John Chard's Pistol
This is the pistol used by Lt (later Col) JRM Chard VC, Royal Engineers, at the Battle of Rorke's Drift.
It is on show at the Royal Engineers Museum in the Medway Towns. He died of cancer and has a memorial at Rochester Cathedral, Medway Towns.
Classic revolver.
ReplyDeleteIs it a Webley? There is a 19th C. Webley that looks similar.
DeleteI believe it is a Webley R.I.C. (Royal Irish Constabulary). It is a solid frame and doesn't top break to load like later Webley revolvers.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I thought it was a Webley but I don't know much about the the history of pistols.
