Photographing Toy Soldiers

I have finally got fed up with trying to photograph toy soldiers in North European winter sunlight with flash guns, light through the windows, etc etc.

So I girded my loins and bought a couple of photographic lights on eBay. They cost me the princely sum of £35 intotal including delivery. Why the hell didn't I do this before?

'Cause I'm stoopoid, duh.

    1. The light this far north is often unsuitable for photographing toy soldiers.

  3. I still get better results if I can use daylight too, but they are certainly better than trying without.

  4. A light pointed into an el cheapo styrofoam cooler works too...

  6. Useful kit there. I bought a lightbox a few years ago, smaller working area than your set up but like you I was tired of long Canadian winters and poor light. A good investment for showing off finished work.

    1. Yeah, it's often not realised that London is on roughly the same latitude as Adaka in Alaska and Saskatoon in Canada. It's tough living on the roof of the world :)

  7. Yup. Come the revolution (or a surprise influx of cash) I'll be getting me one of those too.

My Chicagoan wife, when asked about the climate there, often points out that Chi-Town is on the same latitude as Rome!
