Turning Japanese

"I'm turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so."

I couldn't resist buying a couple of boxes of Airfix plastic kits in Model Zone, when my family were shopping in Bluewater. I bought these back in my 60s geeky youth. You get about 35 usable 20mm figures from the infantry box, which is not bad for a sick squid.
The Chi-Ha Type 97 tank was a similar sum.
Chi- Ha, what a great name for a tank!

  1. Hah! I got these in my 80s geeky youth (and even more recently in my geeky 30s). Together with the Matchbox stuff, they make a respectable opponent for Anzacs and Marines. It's a pity they don't match up with the new Waterloo offerings.

  2. Hi John
I like the coming out of the stream/sea basing on some of them. I take it these Japanese really are from Essex given their flag of St George overlayed with the imperial rising sun motif (p.s. guilty secret Ive bought a box of 1/76th scale WWII GIs from the Valiant range (64 in a box) to fight my 1/76th German army so perhaps some of them can get transferred to the Pacific theatre) any way now I've finished my 28mm Ancients perhaps this will give me the impetus to start work on the Yanks)

  4. Dear Dimitri
I think they have been in production for about 40 years, on and off.

  5. Dear Shaun
That's a Japanese Army flag, not a rising sun flag. :)

  7. These were a favourite set as a youngster, and they've stood the test of time well. I like your take on the bases, great idea with the water, what was your inspiration for that (if you don't mind my being nosey)?
