United States Infantry

The first unit of my new modern collection is a US Infantry unit and Stryker APC in desert camo. It's interesting how wheeled transpoert is making a comeback for the infantry after the lunge into expensive mechanised IFVs.

As an aside, does anyone know of a reasonable set of modern skirmish rules? I have Force on Force but the rules are difficult to read with no easy way in and the game becomes unwieldly with all but a very limited number of units in play.

  1. Chain Reaction Final Version by Two Hour Wargames, I tend to use it for all my modern skirmishing ;)

  2. Nice work, the Stryker looks suitable well used.

Other than force on force, I've only played Battlefield Evolution: Modern Combat a couple times. Ok, but not great.

  3. The stryker and the men look very good, but the ground looks very red to me. I know there are very red sand dunes in a few places, but this looks like the miniatures have been prepped for a game on a science fiction Martian battlefield.

Sorry I can't recommend any modern rules sets...

  4. John, I'm planning to use the modern version of SOBH, Flying lead. If it is anything like SOBH it's gonna be good. It does have stats for the Hardy Boys, Rangers and Somalis. There is this as well: http://www.btinternet.com/~david.manley/wargames/Odds/fforce.htm . I hope that this helps some.

  5. Minis look good, as far as rules go I don't know how detailed you want them but FUBAR is a lot of fun and free. Can't beat one page rules.

  6. Not my period, John, but... Wow! Very nicely finished - especially the APC. Lovely (can wargamers/modellers use that word?).
    Cheers,

  7. Dear Monty
Chain reaction is rather like FoF, although far better written! No doubt it works well but it is not really the style I am looking for. Too rpgish.

  8. Dear Vladd
I had a copy of Battlefield evolution but it didn't grab me.

I suspect they look redder on the screen than they really are. Devon, native land of the Lambsheads, has very red soil.

  10. Dear Chris
    Will look up Fubar.
Largely hate complexity in rules unless there is some point to it.

  11. Dear Dimitri
    Thanks.
Flying Lead is good and playable but, again, more rpgish than I want.
