There was a bad accident this morning on the new Sheppey Bridge. It seems to have started at the base of the bridge in the early morning sea mist.
The bridge is a high hump to allow yachts to sail underneath, replacing the old lift structure. Cars coming over the hump at speed crashed into the wreckage for a good ten minutes. Maybe 100 vehicles involved and many injuries, some serious.
I tried phoning you this morning, to see if you were in that or not. I'm guessing that unless posting this was your last determined mortal act, that I don't need to prepare a eulogy just yet.
ReplyDeleteWhich is a good thing.
Bit too soon to put in a bid for my model collection. :)
DeleteMost of the people I know on the island have emailed me confirming they are safe.
ReplyDeleteIt's incredible there were no deaths. It shows how car safety has improved.
DeleteHoly smokes! That's a terrifying spectacle - glad you weren't caught up in it!
ReplyDeleteIt was only stopped when a quick thinking lorry driver travelling the other way used his vehicle to block the roundabout giving access to the bridge.
