Betrayal At Calth

Word Bearers Legion

I keep wondering whether to sell my Betrayal at Calth boardgame as I have played all the scenarios.

And Yet the models are so nice. I used Tamiya metallic red spray for the Word Bearers. It is pricey but gives a deeper true red than any other acrylic on the market.

Ultramarine Legion

Sprayed with Tamiya metallic blue.

Horus Heresy: Ahzek Ahriman

Ahzek Ahriman, Chief Librarian of The Thousand Sons, the XV Legion,

The model is from the Horus Heresy, Burning of Prospero boardgame.

The model is painted in Tamiya Metallic Red spray paint. This is the best attempt at a metallic red available in acrylic to my knowledge.

Superb model, like all in the Horus Heresy range.

Burning of Prospero: Custodes

I have finished my first squad for The Burning of Prospero and I have to say the models are terrific.

This photo shows the standard bearer - but you guessed that.

The Custodes are the Emp's personal bodyguards, something like the Queen's Brigade of Guards, so I wanted to show them in squeaky clean polished armour. I therefore eschewed my usual wash technique and used highlights instead, restricting washes to the 'soft' parts of the uniform.

The models were spray in Humbrol Deep Gold and highlighted with Vallejo shining gold.

I went for royal blue as the contrasting colour on 'soft' components: it seemed appropriate.

The bases are in light blue grey with arcane symbols added to represent the floors of the Prospero capital.

Horus Heresy Word Bearer's - Betrayal at Calth

After my experiences of Dreadfleet and Age of Sigmar, I swore I was off GW games for good but my local flgs advised me that Betrayal at Calth was actually pretty good - so I succumbed.

And it is pretty good. I haven't played yet but the components are high quality and value for money - and the game rules look simple but interesting.

I have so far painted up a single tactical force - my God, I'm painting more space marines - and have been charmed by their retro appearance. Very nostalgiac.

We are in the land of the winter dark here in southern England at the moment so it is difficult to get a decent photo. I took this one with natural light (ha ha) from the right and a bounce flash off a distant wall to the left.

Calth is apparently flying off the shelves. After the Dreadfleet and Age of Sigmar debacles this might just have saved GW's Xmas.
