Battle: Free Download

From 1968 to 1970, Charles Grant published a series of articles in Meccano Magazine on how to wargame with toy soldiers.

These rules were hugely seminal in later modern rules development including 40K.

Some of the material in these articles was published in book form as Battle but did you know that you can get the complete set here as a free downloadable PDF.

My thanks to wargaming.info who spread the word

  6. How dare you imply that 40K did not spring whole from the forehead of its creators, like Athena from Jove!

Very cool, John. I wish more old gaming articles/magazines would make an appearance on the web. A lot of the early White Dwarf issues had great articles (scenarios, equipment, settings) for Call of Cthulhu, Traveller and the like.

    1. I wouldn't hold your breath for early White Dwarf. Cease and desist notices all round.

  7. Still have my copy in the bookcase. The art you posted above made me wish it still had the dust jacket though... :o(

  8. these are the rules i`m using for my imagine-nation wars..they seem simple enough for someone who never actually played a miniature wargame.

  9. Dear Tsold
They are not that simple, Grant just explains them well.
