Black Library
Dropped in to the Black Library website to check what's new and came across a limited edition novella for £30.
A thirty quid short story???
Well these limited editions must be profitable or BL wouldn't offer them. "Limited' no doubt accurately describes the sales figures but on the other hand the profit margin must be staggering.
I guess this reflects the "pile 'em low, sell 'em dear" policy of GW in general.
It's quite interesting how GW seems to be turning its business model into a low volume 'luxury' manufacturer as opposed to the high volume toy manufacturer it aspired to be in the 90s. The target audience appears to be 'rich kids' - of various ages :)

£30 for a novella!!! What a sad state of affairs:(. For that money I could buy an awful lot of very good military history books off Amazon et al.
ReplyDeleteMy publisher, Baen, will sell you half a dozen military SF novels from really good authors (Drake Webber etc) for £30.
DeleteI would not say target audience is "Rich Kids" but single fathers who only see their kids every other weekends so want to treat them! And that is a horrible thing to aim for!
ReplyDeleteYou could well be right.
DeleteTo be honest, BL's Ebook prices are shockingly high, but as BL is the only place you can get these, they are pricing whatever they want.
ReplyDeleteAs I said, they must be selling enough to make a profit or they wouldn't be doing it.
