Maelstrom in Doggy Doo

I have been following the Maelstrom story for some time. I had some disturbing experiences with them a few months ago but I have not commented as you can push a company under by rumour mongering.

But, well read below and make up your own mind.

This has gone out on the Wyrd Games Forum from the Wyrd distributor in Christchurch:

"Maelstrom won't be getting any more Malifaux from us as he's been cut off due to his massive debt, which has now been sold via a debt purchase company who will be pursuing the debt and legal action.

MG is running his final sales (several of them) and there is nothing much left. No further stock will be sent from us.

All fate Decks, Retro Decks, rulebooks etc are all in stock here and you'll find them at any other stockist in the UK who have ordered them in. Try Firestorm, Wargames Workshop, Waugh Games, Arcane, Wayland Games, Waylands Forge, Spirit Games, Total Wargamer, Worthy Wargaming, Titan Games or any of the dozens of others who have plenty of Malifaux on the shelves.

We have re-stocks coming in every other week and pretty much running straight out the door to all the stockists, so we're just ordering even more"

Maelstrom's site is still up, as is the Eye of the Storm mirror site. Not clear how this will affect Mierce Miniatures, which is their own brand.

  1. Sad if true. I know that a lot of people really liked Mealstrom.

Wargames empire just disappeared overnight, ceasing to answer emails etc, taking a few quid of mine with them. But they would do you incredible deals if you ordered in bulk.

I guess that a web-retailer has to be very careful of many things, just like a brick shop.

    1. Dear Stuart
I feel for the people like Rob Lane who have sunk a significant portion of their life into Maelstrom. They will be the biggest losers if Maelstrom goes under. That is why I was careful what I wrote.

There are a number of 'explanations' doing the rounds, some libellous if untrue.

      It's depressing.

  2. I have given them a lot of business over the years , thanks to their discounts, Free Worldwide shipping (that's big to me in NZ) and their loyalty discount too.
Plus they have always fixed up any delivery problems I have had which have been few... so I wish them best and hope they get themselves out of trouble... and manage to send on my outstanding order from their current sale!

    1. GW were the people who blocked competition in selling their product to Australasia, thus I would imagine slowly strangling their business there.

    2. Yeah I know, the b*astards at GW have a lot to answer for!

    3. I must confess the business sense of that decision escapes me but no doubt that reflects my naivete. :)

  3. That is a shame - I visited Maelstrom on my trip across the pond back in March and really enjoyed it. I'm sad to hear they're falling on hard times.

    1. I also really enjoyed the weekend I spent there in March (with Mordian 7th and the Tempus Fugitives). I thought the staff was very helpful to a couple of Yanks. I was looking forward to a return visit next year but will have to wait and see what happens. I wish them the best of luck!
