New Light Tank for the British Army

This is the new British Army Scout SV light tank equipped with a purpose-designed 40mm Anglo-French gun.

Note light is a relative term. It weighs in at 38-42 tonnes. A Sherman tank weighed 30 tonnes so in WWII terms it should be classed as a medium. A Challenger II is 63 tonnes but I suspect the MBT is about to go the way of the battleship.

    1. It's a really potent piece of kit. It's main function is data gathering and communications.

  2. Very cool. Massively heavy though. That will restrict where it can go, who can lift it and what bridges it can cross...

    1. Yes but I do not think it will function like the old recon vehicles. I suspect it will eventually act more like a mobile HQ/ data centre and other things will do the shooting.

    2. Perhaps, but that 40mm cannon will take down anything on land short of a MBT...

    3. Yes, apparently it is a very advanced weapon.

  3. If that secondary weapon system is some sort of Anti tank missile system then even MBT s might have problems too By the way that 40mm looks like some of squeeze gun (bigger chamber higher velocity) so it might be good just by itself.

    1. The gun is a brand new Anglo French automatic weapon with a variety of ammunition including AP.

  4. Can we fly them from our new aircraft carrier [singular]?

    1. No but Lockheed's pile of crap doesn't fly either and costs a lot more. At least the tank can fire its cannon. :)

    1. I think they are more multipurpose than recce and that their main function is as an information control centre.
