John Carter of Mars

Stills from the new movie. I am a little disappointed that Mars looks so much like the USA. It is the Red Planet after all. Still, the visuals are good. I wonder if they will hire a decent script writer?

Trailer here:

  1. Why is their sky blue? Something about that doesn't seem right. I guess it's cool that Mars looks like Nevada or something...just wish it was more red. Or wracked by iron dust storms.

  3. Or there was more nudity... Why aren't any decently indecent women (or men if your tastes run in that direction) in this film? Martians only wore harnesses in the books. Joking aside, I'll be sure to watch it. And if Jr. is up to it, this might be his first movie in an actual movie theater.

  5. Dear Ast.
I know, the blue sky bothers me as well.

  8. Hi John
Don't forget NASA tweaked the landers and rover photos they released to make it look redder than it actually is (perhaps to head off (or to fuel) a conspiracy theory that they were trolling around the deserts of Arizona and New Mexico) P.S. I suspect the action figures will be in plentiful supply by the summer (and why didn't GW bid for the toy soldier rights?)

  9. Dear Shaun
You're right. I had forgotton that.
I suppose SW USA is pretty alien looking when one lives in Kent.

  10. The story starts in Arizona and I'll bet that was ERB's model for Mars. The "red martians" certainly "feel" like native Americans to me.

Don't know if you can get the trailer, John, but I feel a lot better about it in the new trailer than the clip that was released earlier.

If nothing else...maybe some enterprising game company will pick up the license and we can call fight martians. Sure beats trolling eBay for decent-priced Heritage Models Barsoom figures (I still have my two sets of rulebooks!).
