Many thanks to the gamers who took the trouble to look at the rules.

Note: I will use this blog to answer rules queries as they come up.
Q: If a ship has 2 or more artillery (platforms), may i roll 1D6 for each in an artillery attack? It´s not clear in the rules.
Michael D.
Yes, each artillery engine on a ship may attack a target. Roll a D6 for each engine.

And because we have still no downloadable reference sheet on the Osprey website, i got the RS from Osprey and the permission to offer it also (with a little own revision) :)

Thanks, appreciate you taking the time to review this. One of your countrymen built that amazing diorama of Carthage harbour. Truly stunning!
DeleteWell I do have to get a game on don't I, John - and post the results on my blog. I wish you great success with these rules!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean, appreciated.
DeleteI couldn't find any mention of the base or table size. I'm thinking of using small scale like 1/2400 or 1/3600, maybe even with multiple Shia per base.
ReplyDeleteN.B. "Shia" should be "ships".
ReplyDeleteJust a small query.
ReplyDeleteThe save die roll for fast quadriemes and some other ship classes is listed as 0.Does this mean it is impossible roll a successful save roll for these ship classes?
I just played my first game yesterday with a friend to try the rules out. I only have a few miniatures and half are triremes and biremes. I made them all fast and lo and behold the same question pops up. Seems with a 0 save they are immediately sunk by any ram. Is this the case? My fellow gamer had never played an ancient naval game before. He rammed two fast quadremes bow on to two Biremes (light galleys) and the only thing I could discern was that all four ships were sunk because it was a simulataneous ram and none of the ships had a save. Needless to say, he wasn't interested in playing another game. I can't understand why there wouldn't be a save chance for any ram. Nothing should be 100% automatic. Can you please clarify? Maybe I'm missing something in my reading of the very simple rules as laid out.
