40K 8th Edition News

You know all those expensive codexes you bought: well you can throw them away chaps and chapesses. They will not be compatible with 8th edition.

But fear not if you feel that you have not quite given GW enough cash yet - there is a last chance to buy unusable, useless codexes on the GW site - no doubt at full price, obvously.

  2. Still full of wonderful stories and pictures. So no reason to throw them out. Still have every Eldar codex since 2nd edition. Love looking through them all.

  3. lols to the people who would frown when I only had my 6th ed (or in the case of the Orks, 4th ed) codexes for a game of 7th ed 40k...

    1. I'm still a number of codexes behind on many armies as well. :-)

  4. Oh, come on... All codexes were getting invalidated every couple of years with updated ones and it has been this way since the very beginning.
Why is this only now a problem?
Because of the way codexes were cycled in the past they were never able to fix the basic rules completely with new editions because they had to be compatible with the older codexes not intended for the newer editions.
What they are doing now is a good thing!! I've been waiting for this for a couple of years now to get back to 40k.

    1. Oh, I'm certainly hoping to God they simplify the game so my feeble brain can cope with it. I'm very much looking forward to 8th. I am just amused by the corporate speak -last chance to buy, indeed.

  5. kinda silly that the price is still the same, so i can see that point. i just hope that they do what they did to aos and shadow war armageddon. just put the warscrolls and rules for free on the net, and sell books alongside with some extra fluff and the physical form neatly set up for you and your games. people are 100% gonna buy the books. everyone i play aos with got battletomes so :P
what i don't get is the whining about not wanting to embrace the changes in the rules. quite sick of playing against cheesing opponents using only tau when all i can do is just play with a fake smile, looking as i get annihilated. i'm not a competative player, but losing by default for your army choice is'nt too much fun

    1. Yeah, I am hoping my huge number of Chaos Marines will actually be worth playing under the new system. I was annihilated on turn 1 before I had a go!!!!

  6. John, it's a great step forward, free core rules for everyone and a fresh start without the baggage of trying to keep old rules relevant, I applaud GW for the drive to streamline 40k of all the bloat it had become. They learned a lot from AoS WFB changeover so I am cautiously optimistic for 8th.

  7. I am beginning to think 40K is actually the amount one would end up spending with the never-ending wheel of rebirth. Seems I was wise to not venture down this path. Though Necromunda & the usage of various figures from the variouse renditions do apply.

    2. That was my sticker shock whilst working at a game store for a few years. Even with my discount, the amount spent was something my wife could never see!

    3. I know exactly what you mean, Terry. My wife always wanted to fritter the money away on stuff like food.
