Executioner

Not much to say about this one. Burnt Umbar oil paint was used for grease stains and MIG and FW powders for soot, rust and mud.

It is waiting for the mud to dry thoroughly so I can blend it in and 'fix' it.

This is a really useful tank, getting off five plasma bolts and a lascannon burst a turn.

  1. Very nice mate, I'll have to get some of those weathering powers.

  2. I tried getting a couple of these kits at Gamesday, but they sold like hot cakes and were out! Darn... I will get some tho.

  3. Looks really good. Do you use a liquid medium to keep the powders in place?

  4. Hi John
definately got that "last thing it drove through" colour scheme down pat and I like the burnished yet tarnished effect on the main Plasma cannon

  5. Very nice - I am just getting to grips with oil paints and weathering powders myself.

Some of the dust (esp along armour edges) looks as if it was applied wet (ie it looks more like mud), and I don't think that is the best look for those parts of the model. How did you apply the dust?

FWIW - when I apply dust, I brush it on dry, sometimes just tapping the brush over the model so the pigment literally falls on it. Then I fix it with a spray of pigment fixer, which means I never touch it with my brush. Hope that helps :)

  6. @Sholto - I read somewhere that using aerosol sprays to fix the pigments blows them off the model. Do you have any problems like that?

Fixing the pigments is what's put me off using the powers.

  7. The powder is painted on wet using turps and allowed to dry. The I blend it in with a brush, blowing off the excess and fix with artists fixative spray. The dust is very static and does not blow off easily but I spray light layers from way back to avoid wetting the powder.

  8. The oils on the plasma coils look superb. I'll have to remember that.

  9. The problem with oil paint is that it takes forever to dry. But it does give a good effect.

  10. The Executioner is a fantastic tank and I use mine in the exact same configuration. It is a LITTLE expensive though, weighing in at more points than a Land Raider. But it's a terrifying and formidable opponent and the enemy will direct a TON of fire toward it. Especially Space Marine players.

Horridus: The Forge World Executioners are FANTASTIC as well. You might try getting one of those (I have three!).

I have used this tank twice in combat with good results. In one it stalemated a Land Raider for the whole game. In the other. It destroyed a Terminator squad and Dreadnought beaking open my openents wing for exploitation.
