Combat Barbie

Gentlemen, may I introduce you to 'Combat Barbie', aka, L/cpl Katrina Hodge from Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent. She serves in the Royal Anglian and earned her army nickname in a tour in Basra.

Currently, the Army has delayed her posting to Afghanistan so she can serve as Miss England. The previous Miss England has been dethroned after decking Miss Manchester in a nightclub catfight over the affections of the Gladiator, Tornado.

Do you remember when Miss England was for classy women, well spoken, educated, attractive.

Now we've got a dethroned Miss for fighting, and a battle hardened squady taking her place. It'd seem strange unless you'd spent a an saturday evening sober in any major town or city.

...Or Aldershot.

And Corbane, you took my comment right out of my head! Mind you, she comes across as fairly articulate and entirely well-intentioned.

Hmmm...she'd be an interesting case study for discussion with one of my brighter classes: Combat Barbie: a good role model?

In her defence, it takes a lot for a woman to make amorphous Combat 95s look good!

I take it she was the runner up in the original Miss England competition because she listed her intrests as travelling, meeting new interesting people and shooting them?

I'm not saying different Drax, I'm sure she's intelligent, confident, etc and for a female in the army, she's definitely not the norm for attractiveness in the army. I just don't think trained killer really goes with the whole Miss England thing.

One interesting point, I'd love to know the feminist position on this. They're normally well against these things but I doubt anyone could claim a trained killer is being exploited.

Soz to John for hijacking this.

It's okay, Corbane - I'm not being bolshy! And you'll note I hedged my bets with "she comes across as..."

And I think John knew he was being...er...provocative (no double meaning intended)!
