Skytrex Red Eagle WWI Planes

I bought some Red Eagle WWI planes from the Skytrex site (see sidebar), a couple of DH2s and a couple of Sopwith Triplanes. cards for both these aircraft are available from Wings of War, but not the models.

Red Eagle planes are supposed to be a living nightmare to assemble: I will let you know in a couple of days. One trick, apparently is to use thin copper tube, rather than the provided white metal struts.

The models are a bit rough and ready and will need cleaning up but are only £4 a time. Skytrex have a wide range, including heavy bombers.

When assembled, they should look like the pics below.

  1. Wow, them suckers are small! That would be a nightmare for me, I have large hands and I think I might end up throwing one or two of them for distance after enough frustration, lol. Looking forward to see how it goes for you, good luck John.

  3. Why must you continue to lead me into temptation, John? There have already been some WWI planes spotted here in my hobby area, now you introduce more options!

Sorry, but why should I burn in hell alone? If you come to at least I will get a game occasionally.
You may want to look at the Revisco site as they are based on your side of the pond.

  5. Hi John
So When finished have you considered embedding them in a clear resin block ?
Certainly help to keep the bits from falling off and the wings from warping

  6. Dear Shaun
I have pretty much embedded them in epoxy resin.

  7. John - if only I'd spotted this earlier and directed you to my efforts and lessons learned:

Don't try and use the white metal struts, don't buy the SE5a, drill through the bottom wing to use copper wire for struts and blu-tack is your friend when gluing the top wing to the bottom.

Do that and they are a doddle...

Reviresco are nice but have more parts and can be more challenging (that said they do stuff Skytrex don't) like the wonderful Dolphin.
