Decorating a tank

A bit o' cosmetic can improve appearance no end, as any starlet will tell you. I have added a couple of packs to my Stuart from the Tamiya 1/48 accessory pack.

Real tanks were absolutely festooned with junk: very little room in the boot. Combat pictures seem to show them cleaner, presumably because of the fire risk.

  1. Nice work, there is always debate online if tanks was junked up and had all this graffiti on it or were they spic and span clean for the most part.

Yeah, I suspect they were loaded up when motoring from place to place but surely it would be bloody dangerous to go into combat festooned: fire risks, junk falling over vision ports etc.

  3. Most photos of tans that I've seen tend to have a lot of junk over them

True, but photos tend not to be taken in combat.

  5. US Armoured Infantry doctrine for Normandy was to hang one's pack and other accotrements over the side of the half track where one sat. In practice the narrow lanes of the bocage would scrape it all off after about half and hour; contemporary photos show an awful lot of stuff hanging off the back, where it would be safe from foliage.

  6. Dear Stuart
Did you put stuff on the outside of your Chieftains?
