This is Westgate Games, my FLGS in Canterbury. It is under new management and has been restocked. WG can be found on the Kings Mile, named after the school. You will notice that the doors lean a bit. Canterbury is old, very old. The Cant... part of the name is because the city was the Civitas of the Cantiaci, a tribe of Belgae who controlled Kent. The Romans rebuilt the city in stone as DVROVERNVM CANTIACORVM. The ...bury part was added when it became one of the Saxon fortified centres to protect against viking incursions.
This is the shop across the road. It was the original Kings School shop.
The spring flowers are out in Kent. The tree blossom is particularly fine. Canterbury Cathedral, the spiritual centre of the Church of England, is in the background.

Ah, that explains it, I always thought the building looked like that because the only time I've been to Canterbury was a serious night out with the lads - lol.
ReplyDeleteDude, the history of your LGS and surrounding neighborhood putt my pre-fab strip mall to shame.
ReplyDeleteThanks John – good to know there is an alternative to GW in Canterbury (my closest resource being in Folkestone)
ReplyDeleteHi John, my local games shop as well, also visit the snipers nest in Ramsgate we are lucky to have 2 in east kent! Purchased some Warlord ECW Cavalry at Westgate the other week. I am involved with a group trying to save the westgate hall www.westgatecommunityhall.org.uk/index.shtml and have considered if we take over the running of the hall that a wargames show be held there in the future
ReplyDeleteDear Col
ReplyDeleteLOL As long as you sway the same direction as the doors you will be fine.
Dear Gyro
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful island and you can't put a spade in the ground without finding something new.
John
Dear Templar
ReplyDeleteYes, the shop has been rejuvenated.
J.
Dear Fraxinus
ReplyDeleteI did not know there was a FLGS in Ransgate. I must go down for a look.

Hey John
ReplyDeleteGood to know they've refurbished and restocked, been a while since i went over and had a look. The Ramsgate shop is new to me as well, i remember a friend of mine (Bob) running the Giggling goblin (grinning goblin) in Ramsgate a few years back but he had to shut down.
Do they sell FoW (at Westgate) - just started down that road.
Simon
PS I believe you know john Gent?
Dear Simon
ReplyDeleteNot FoW. Hobbycraft (name?) sell that along with GW stuff. You know, the big retail park craft stores.
Ah, I know a few Johns. I can't place Gent but I have a terrible memory for names - if I saw his face I would place him immediately.
John
