German Infantry Support Weapons

HaT soft plastic figures that cost around £5 for a box of four. These are a 37mm anti-tank gun and a 75mm howitzer. They are the sort of support heavy weapons under an infantry battalion's direct control. I have mounted them on GW stands.

The frosting on the AT gun came about becuase I decided to use up the last can of Citadel satin varnish rather than throwing the damn thing away, a mistake I have rectified.

  1. Try 'painting' a thin coat of olive oil (yes, seriously) over the fogged varnish, and its more or less like using an erasure, though the mini will be shiny after that. I used to live in Florida, where the humidity is a serious issue/cause of fogging, and olive oil saved several paint jobs from being stripped off. NO idea who first discovered that, my theory is someone went thruogh every liquid in their house trying to see if they could save a fogged over paint job.

  5. Very nice work on the painting, but I can't say I'm enamored of the basing material. The ballast is just too large for 15mm. I have recently started using Vallejo black lava texture paint for basing, and really like the fine grit finish it gives. That might be worth a try. I wonder if anyone makes static grass more that scale... hmm...

  6. ...and I don't think the frosting on the gun looks all that bad. It appears to be weathering.

  8. I envy you, I visited Uk 20 years ago, but I only spent half a day in London. No time for British Museum. :( But I found the GW shop. :)

  9. Dear Mike
The figures are 1/72 so are a bit bigger than 15ml. The bases look OK in real life. This is the Russian steppes so knee high vegetation is not so unrealistic.
