Mortis - Nurgle Predator

I picked up and old-style metal and plastic SM Predator on eBay and tarted it up as a a tank detroyer for my Nurgle army. I give you - Mortis, terror of the warp.

I used decals on this model but bought some Humbrol Decal fluid. This is applied before and after the decal and melds it onto the model. The Nurgle gunk is green stuff. I used GW synthetic water on the furrows in the green stuff and in the turret hatch. The hatch was missing on the model so I decided to make that a feature.

The problem with 'cold' synthetic water is that it takes an eternity to dry. I prefer 'hot' synthetic water crystals but they do tend to melt plastic.

Including materials, I suppose that this tank cost me less than £15. A good deal, I think.

  1. Nice bit of tank there! One thing I've found that helps with my decals is to brush on some GW 'Ard Coat before you place it. Then use the decal set as you do, then brush on more 'Ard Coat. It will leave it super glossy, so you'll need to hit it with some matte finish, but the decals blend seamlessly and leave no edge.

  3. Hi John

I always coat the area with Klear, then apply the decal (sometimes use Microsol) and when dry another coat of Klear.

I have read that you have to leave Klear (Future) for at least 4 hours - to set properly, I'm afraid I don't and second and third coats can go on in minutes!

I like the look of the tank.

  4. That is a wonderfully disgusting Predator, John - the water effects are a really nice touch, and I applaud your transfer work. I have a heck of a time with those (even with Microsol/Microset). I'll have to try the Humbrol fluid you mention, assuming I can get my mitts on it on this side of the pond. Keep up the great work!

  5. Very nice tank, and for such a low price as well - a great deal! I really like the Nugrly touches of ooze coming out of various cracks in the armour.

I have never managed to buy any Klear. No one round here sells it.

Humbrol is the model aircraft paint manufacturer - try a general model shop/toy shop.

  10. Hey John,
For decals I use a little bit of white vinegar to soften the decal after it is in place, works a treat and you can get a bottle for $1AU at the shop and have enough left over for the fish and chips after the hobby!
Matt finish on top and seamless blending all round.

  11. Dear Sub
White vinegar sounds a good tip. I already have some for descaling.
